Sedation Dentist in Washington -serving Redmond, Bellevue, Kirkland, and Seattle

While advances in dental technology now allow early detection and treatment of dental disease, there are still individuals who need extensive dental care or possess fear or anxiety when it comes to going to the dentist. Sedation Dentistry involves the use of agents like nitrous oxide, anti-anxiety medicines, sedatives, pain medicines, and/or other agents to cause relaxation, sedation, and many times amnesia within the patient. A Dentist can use Sedation to help control dental fear or anxiety, and lets even the most anxious patients comfortably receive their dental care. Whether you live in Redmond, Bellevue, Kirkland, Woodinville, or anywhere else in the Seattle Washington Area, our office is a short drive from home or work, and a world away from the "scary" dentist visits of the past.

Sedation Dentists - Using safe and effective agents and drugs to help you relax

Anti-anxiety agents and drugs, also known as Anxiolytics, can help you relax. When basic relaxation techniques fail, these safe and effective treatments may be used in alone or in combination with other sedatives or pain medicines. Sometimes called "laughing gas" one of the most commonly used agents to help you relax, without necessarily being fully unconscious, is NO2 or Nitrous Oxide. Other options include benzodiazepines, a class of anti-anxiety medications.

Dental Sedation - A range from Fully Conscious to Unconscious.

Conscious sedation is a unique term used to describe a spectrum of sedation. This spectrum starts with medications and techniques that generate a state in which the patient is lightly or mildly relaxed, and ends with medications and techniques that generate a state described as deep sedation in which the patient fully loses consciousness. Since sedation involves the depression of one's level of consciousness and everyone reacts slightly differently to analgesics, anesthetics, anti-anxiety, and /or sedatives agents your dentist often needs to tailor a specific medication and/or technique to achieve a level of sedation to meet the specific needs of a patient. Patients who have been sedated often feel as though they have been fully relaxed or even asleep throughout their dental appointment. Patients who are faced with a heightened level of fear or anxiety, or who require involved dental procedures (like a Root Canal or Surgical Extractions) may elect to be sedated for their treatment.
