Bridges & Dentures

WHAT IS A FIXED BRIDGE?
A fixed bridge is a dental appliance that is permanently cemented to the teeth and serves to replace one or more missing teeth. Bridges can be made of all metal, all porcelain, or a combination of metal and porcelain.

Bridges can be made to attach to teeth or implants.

(This animation shows the replacement of two teeth with a fixed bridge. The bridge is being attached to a single tooth and a dental implant).

WHAT IS A DENTURE?
A denture is a removable appliance that is designed to replace missing teeth.

WHAT IS A PARTIAL DENTURE?
A partial denture is a removable appliance worn by someone who has lost some of their teeth.

WHAT IS A FULL DENTURE?
A full upper denture is a removable appliance worn by someone who has lost all of their upper teeth. Historically an upper denture would sit upon the gums. With the advent of implants it is now possible to connect a denture directly to implants thus eliminating many problems commonly experienced by denture wearers. The image shows a lower removable denture which is attached to an implant supported bar.
